Spiders, roaches and bugs oh my! Time for homemade bug spray!

I saw a black widow scurry down the wall outside on our back patio..it's definitely time for spray!

The last 3 summers here in New Mexico I have used a spray I created around the outside of the windows and frames of the house, all over the back and front porches, along the garage walls and this spray has really worked to keep the spiders, roaches, and other desert creepy crawlies away.

It's natural too!

so I am heading to the store for some witch hazel and thought I would post the recipe here in case any of you were interested- it is using the essential oils specifically known to work on bugs out here in the southwest but you could research oils that repel the critters in your neck of the woods and adjust the recipe easily, so here goes:

In a sturdy plastic jug combine the following-
2 cups rubbing alcohol
2 cups witch hazel
3 TBS. castor oil
1 TBS vitamin E oil
1 TBS lemon oil
1 TBS vegetable glycerin
10 drops of each of the following essential oils-
Tea tree, peppermint, lavender, citronella, eucalyptus, clove, and rosemary.
then add 1 cup water and shake vigorously to mix thoroughly, shake whenever you go to spray it as well. From this jug you can fill and refill spray bottles or a garden sprayer, this can safely be sprayed on humans and pets as long as you avoid the face and only spray lightly.

Enjoy your insect free space!
